On May 22nd, the Town of Oak Grove is holding its
First Annual "Heritage Homecoming Festival."
This event will be an all-day, free-to-the-public, music festival featuring local music,
folk music and our featured act "Three on a String! There will be Craft and Food
vendors.
There will also be crafts made using authentic Native American techniques.*
The festival is being put on in co-ordination with the Alabama Arts Council and is a
participant in the
Alabama Department of Tourism's Small towns and Downtowns
Homecoming 2010 program. The entire week before the festival, school tours will
be visiting us to see the Alabama Natural Museum of History's display
of the
Hodges Meteorite, which is the only known meteorite
to strike a human being.
It struck in Oak Grove in 1954.
On the morning of the
festival, Saturday, May 22nd,
we will be dedicating a
"historic marker" to commemorate the
occurrence of and the site
where the meteorite landed.
